In this Christian romance story, Rose’s husband leaves her for another woman. She is devastated and questions herself, life, and even God. Soon thereafter, she meets Derek, who has just emerged from a traumatic divorce and now helps his aging grandparents on their farm. The two establish a working relationship, and through the day-to-day encounters, they begin to trust each other and God. Eventually, they fall in love, and when they look back at their lives, they see the once hidden blessings.

This is a heartwarming story of second chances. The setting and characters resonated and kept me focused throughout. When the two principal characters faced the darkness of doubt and confusion, I related to their struggle even though their circumstances were different from mine. Don’t we all look back and question our decisions or actions? I credit Gussman for effectively revealing this universal experience.

Cowboy Walking Away had a predictable outcome, but this was a romance and not a mystery or a thriller. There was no trauma or discord. The story simply unfolded slowly, easily, and with care, as Gussman highlighted God’s sometimes unrecognized love.

This was a lovely four fish read with a memorable ending.

  5. This sounds like a gentle and heartwarming book. The Lord is constantly giving us second chances.

    So many times something will occur in life that I don’t understand, only to have the revelation come much later when I look back on the event.

    Kudos to the author for weaving such an inspirational thread into her story.

  8. I absolutely love the quote you pulled, Gwen. I’ve been in situations where I questioned God’s purpose (or His timing). Later, I can look back and see that He always has a purpose for things and His timing is perfect.
