REVIEW BY JOAN HALL

When you can’t remember all the past, who do you trust?

Former Army photographer Remi Grant escaped to Cedar Trails Lodge on the rugged Washington coast. Where better to hide than a place with no internet, no television, and no cell phone service?

Technology was neither good nor bad, but it had taken over people’s lives. Sometimes a person needed to unplug. Literally.

Elizabeth Goddard, Storm Warning

Two years earlier, she woke up in a military hospital after being pulled from the Baltic Sea with no memory of how she got there or why. She had hoped that by escaping to this remote area, she’d be able to recover her memory. Remi has grown comfortable living at and managing the lodge.

One thing was certain—whatever she’d forgotten placed her in danger. When Remi receives packages containing pieces of a jigsaw puzzle and messages such as, “Remember before it’s too late,” it seems the past has caught up with her.

Hawk Beckett is a former military pilot turned deputy sheriff who came to the lodge to forget. A helicopter that he was piloting crashed, killing his partner. Soon, his life and Remi’s are tied together as he tasks himself to keep her from danger.

Remi’s partial amnesia makes her uncertain who she should trust. Even Hawk is under suspicion because he has this uncanny way of showing up each time her life is in immediate danger.

“. . . the difference between the good guys and the bad guys was often a matter of point of view.”

Elizabeth Goddard, Storm Warning

The action begins on page one and doesn’t stop until the end. Goddard kept me guessing, and although my suspicions about the antagonist’s identity proved true, it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the entire novel.

I happily give Storm Warning five fish.

I purchased the Kindle version of Storm Warning through Amazon.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Joan! I hadn’t heard of Storm Warning before, but your review really caught my attention. I enjoy romantic suspense stories, especially ones with strong characters and a sense of mystery, and this one sounds like it delivers on both. Definitely adding this to my reading list. It sounds like a compelling and meaningful read.

    1. I’m glad to live in the twenty-first century, but often wonder if we’re “too connected.” It’s hard to imagine we once lived without smart phones and instant access to information. All that to say, yes, being disconnected can add to a novel’s tension, and in this case, it did.
