Review by Gwen M. Plano

In this fast-paced Christian suspense novel, Reyna Peterson is pursued by those intent on malice. She runs, not knowing why. She hides, not understanding the reason she must. Each movement brings her deeper into a complex web of deceit involving Federal agents.

Reyna had discovered an obscure message from her deceased husband, Eddie, that directed her to find his former partner, Jase Bradford. Both men had been involved in covert operations. One by one, team members had been killed, and now Reyna’s life was also at risk, even though she knew nothing of the covert activity.

When Reyna finds her husband’s partner, the suspense quickens. Together they craft a plan to sidetrack the agents, but all does not go as they had hoped. Throughout the terror, Reyna places her trust in God, but it is a fragile trust that leaves her with doubts.

“…it takes something horrible to bring us back to Him. …Eddie died, and my world collapsed. I couldn’t function. I’d gone to church all my life, but it took losing Eddie to really open my eyes to the truth. I wasn’t alone. God had been there with me through it all.”

“It makes me realize we’re not promised tomorrow. In spite of everything, you and I are blessed beyond measure, and I don’t want to take a moment for granted.”

ROCKY MOUNTAIN PURSUIT, by Mary Alford

This was a nail-biting read, a story I could not put down. Alford takes the reader through a nightmarish journey of physical threat, terror, and spiritual desperation. The pace is fast and furious. The characters are well-crafted, and the unfolding settings are expertly detailed, to the point where I felt the principal characters were my friends and the setting my own locale.

I’ve deliberately left much of the storyline vague because revealing more would be unfair to potential readers. That said, I loved the story and believe it would make an excellent movie. I am very happy to give Mary Alford’s book five excited fish.

  1. I’ve never read a Mary Alford book but this sounds very good. I like fast paced suspense and the angle that she doesn’t even know why she’s on the run is intriguing. Thanks for the review, Gwen!

    1. I hadn’t been aware of Mary Alford until I read this book. Now I’m a ‘follower’. If you decide to read it, Kelly, I hope you find it as interesting as I did. All the best.

  2. I’m glad you posted this review, Gwen. It sounds like a book I’d really enjoy, but I never would have given it a chance based on the cover. (And I don’t really use covers when I shop for books, but this one didn’t say “suspense” to me at all, so I’d have skimmed past it.)

  3. Thanks for the thoughtful review, Gwen! It sounds like an intense and gripping story with strong faith themes woven in. I have to admit, mysteries and suspense aren’t really my go-to genre – I tend to avoid the scary stuff. But I’m glad you enjoyed it so much, and I appreciate hearing how it points readers back to trusting God even in difficult times.
