The Choice by D. L. Wood
Book Three of The Deadly Decisions Collection

REVIEW BY JOAN HALL
I discovered author D. L. Wood a few years ago and she has yet to disappoint me. The Choice is another page-turning suspense novel.
Sadie Miles is a young woman living in Nashville and raising her best friend’s son. She works as a waitress at an exclusive restaurant, but times are hard and she often struggles to make ends meet. Her strong faith helps her through the tough times.
She’s always been curious about her father and wonders why her deceased mother would never reveal his identity. When an envelope containing a cryptic message shows up at her doorstep, she can’t help but believe she’ll finally meet the man she never knew.
Following the envelope’s instructions, Sadie meets Liam Forrester, a lawyer representing Ellis Marlowe. Liam promises she’ll learn the truth if she agrees to spend a week or two away from Nashville. Soon, she’s whisked away on a private jet to the East Coast for a week-long cruise on a private “Super Yacht” to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. That’s when the danger begins.
Before they even board, someone tries to run their car off the road. When they finally settle on the boat, Sadie learns she has four half-siblings, and her father is deceased. He has left her the bulk of his 300 million dollar estate, and only a pittance (by their standards) to his other children. In order to inherit, each beneficiary has to remain aboard for a week.
Needless to say, none of the siblings are overjoyed about her presence or their “meager” inheritance.
“No wonder her mother had run away and never looked back. No wonder she refused to tell Sadie anything about these people or where she came from. The life and love her mother had given her was worth far more than the dollars in any of their bank accounts.”
D. L. Wood, The Choice
Danger escalates while they are on the ship – murder, attempted kidnapping, missing persons. Sadie isn’t sure who she can trust, including the lawyer.
The book kept me turning the pages, and I did not figure out the villain’s identity until the end. There is light romance, elements of faith, and a satisfying ending.
I’ve read all three novels in this series, and this was by far my favorite. I’m excited to give The Choice five fish.

I purchased the Kindle version of The Choice through Amazon.
Your excellent review intrigued me, Joan, and I grabbed a copy of D.L. Wood’s book. Thanks!

Sounds like even her father didn’t care for these horrible people, and her mother was smart to keep her away from them. I wouldn’t close my eyes the whole week on that boat, lol. Nice review, Joan!

I’m right there with you, Teri. No matter how large the yacht, there’s only so many places you can hide, and no way to escape.

I’m intrigued. It sounds akin to Christie’s And Then There Were None, which I loved.

I hadn’t thought about that comparison, Jacqui. I also enjoyed Christie’s novel (many of her novels, actually).
