I enjoy a well-written dual-timeline story. About a year ago, Mae Clair introduced me to Jaime Jo Wright’s books, and I was hooked. The House on Foster Hill is her debut novel.

Two years after the suspicious death of her husband, Kaine Prescott leaves San Diego and purchases an old home—sight unseen—in her grandfather’s small Wisconsin hometown. Kaine wants to remodel the house partly as a tribute to her late husband. But she’s also convinced his killer is stalking her, and the long-distance move is to put space between her and the unknown stalker.

In 1906, the house on Foster Hill holds painful memories for Ivy Thorpe. When a young woman is found murdered near the home, Ivy sets out to solve the crime and the mysterious woman’s identity. With help from someone from her past, Ivy’s search places her in jeopardy. Who doesn’t want her to know the truth?

My eyes see beyond today, beyond my circumstances in a world jaded and scarred by sin. I see into Heaven. And it is beautiful. And it is good. It is my future. There is no despair in eternity, in God’s presence, in His perfection. There is only hope. He is my hope.

From page one, I was hooked on this story and found it hard to put it down. Told from both Ivy’s and Kaine’s points of view, the author blended the past and present and a parallel between both women. As with Ivy, someone doesn’t want Kaine to learn the truth, and her life is also in danger.

The ending surprised me, which is always a plus for me. If you like dual timelines and suspense, I recommend this one. It’s a fantastic debut novel.
